CSI (Consultancy Services International LTD) was established in Jebel Ali free zone in 1990 by Charlie Haslam, and quickly became involved in using high pressure hydro abrasive cold cutting systems to remove damaged sections of oil wells in Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion of 1990, in partnership with Hytorc. Numerous other applications such as hydro demolition were included in the services provided after completion of the Kuwait contract.
Two years later Hytorc’s owner decided to return to the USA, and the contracting division was closed. In the meantime, Mike Biddle, who had sold the cold cutting equipment, and provided the expertise to Hytorc, had set up his own business in Kuwait, (High Pressure International Ltd) under the sponsorship of Raith Engineering and Manufacturing WLL, to sell high pressure water jetting equipment throughout the region.
In 1994, Mike moved the business to Dubai in partnership with CSI, and in August of 2000 we were pleased to achieve the status of JETSTREAM distributor for the Middle East region. This incorporated the supply of their high pressure water jetting units, ultra high pressure water blasting units, and accessories for the Middle East Region including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait.
CSI rapidly established a reputation for having the best equipment and expertise available in the region. They provided an honest, good value service to contractors and end users throughout the region, and the same team now continues the tradition at AWE.
In February 2006 a new company, ASIA WATERJET EQUIPMENT FZCO (AWE) was formed in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai to formalise ownership of the business, upgrade its status, and bring in one new partner, Steve Ellis who had been instrumental in the success of the business after joining CSI as Operations Manager in August 2003. The existing CSI personnel and business were then transferred on April 1st 2006.
Having recently moved into a brand new facility in the Jebel Ali Freezone, which allowed the company to increase production capacity and stock holding power, AWE has grown continuously into the established Middle East leader in supply of high pressure waterjetting products and accessories.
With the addition of Centrifugal pumps, process pumps, and mud pumps to its range of products, is destined to grow significantly in the foreseeable future.
In 2011 the business expanded with the formation of ASIA WATERJET EQUIPMENT PTE LTD. This included the opening of a new office facility in Singapore to provide support to our existing customer base, as well allow new customers to enjoy the superior technical expertise and service provided by Asia Waterjet.
The Singapore facility stocks a substantial amount of spare parts to help ensure our customers face a minimum amount of downtime waiting on spares, as well as service personnel to offer technical expertise and problem solving.
The Singapore office bridges the gap between the Dubai Headquarters and the Far East. It also formalised the extension of the distribution agreement with JETSTREAM to offer their products and services to customers based in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia amongst others.
Both ASIA WATERJET EQUIPMENT FZCO (AWE) and ASIA WATERJET EQUIPMENT PTE LTD are members of The WaterJet Technology Association (WJTA) – a body that, amongst many things, aims to Enhance Safety and Facilitate Communication within the industry. To find out more about WJTA, you can visit their website
